What makes a good video game?

Above all else, entertaining gameplay. Depending upon the genre, here are some general criteria: solid GUI, breathtaking graphics, amazing frame rate, solid rendering, great soundtrack, attention to detail by the developers and innovation.
Here are some of my favorites:
- All three Halo's

- Madden 09
- SSX Tricky
